Registration
Registration usually occurs in late January/early February. See Registration Page for more information.
Allocation to Teams
Closely following the Registration Day/s, is the allocation to teams. This is done by a grading process for Juniors and by "Team Sorting" for Minis. The dates are available at registration.
Team sorting for Minis is done in one afternoon. See more details under here.
Grading for Juniors occurs over 2 afternoons, either consecutive Tuesdays or Thursdays. See more details under here.
Uniforms
Playing Shirts will be provided by your Coach on playing day. The rest of the uniform must be purchased. This includes red shorts, red socks, shin pads (compulsory)and soccer boots. In addition the Tahmoor now has Club Hoodie, Jacket and Beanie.
Tahmoor Ground - Housekeeping
There are 5 things of which to be aware:
-
We share the ground with the Cricket Club. Until their season ends they have priority over the use of the fields.
-
The Cricket Club expends considerable time, money and effort at trying to keep their cricket pitch in good condition. It can be a very inviting place for children off all ages to kick the ball, small children to push sticks into it, or to chase each other. All of these activities break up the surface. As a matter of courtesy we expect all soccer players and parents (and associated children) to stay off the pitch at all times, even during our season.
-
We also share the ground with the Dog Training Club who have the ground booked on Wednesdays and Fridays from 6.00pm. Training cannot run past their booked time, so please be aware of this when organising training days/times.
-
Locked Gates. If no-one with keys (eg certain Committee members or Coaches) have not yet arrived at the Ground, there are times when the gates may be shut. Providing the ground has not been shut by Council, you can use the fields, with access via the pedestrian gates.
-
Ground Closures: Fields must not be used when the ground has been closed by Council due to bad weather, irrespective of whether the gates are open or locked shut. A sign is placed on the entry gate when the ground is closed.
Training
Training cannot start at the ground straight away as the Cricket Club have priority over the ground. The Club will let your Coach and Manager know when training can be commenced.
Pre-Season
Whether the Club or Macarthur is responsible for organising the games (depending on age-group), there is always an attempt to have pre-season games in the 1-2 weeks before the official season starts. Whoever organises it, your Coach or Manager will be informed as soon as we have confirmation of locations and times.
Team Draw
As the official season approaches (as the number of teams in each Club are confirmed), Macarthur will provide the first few week's worth of games to the Clubs. After that a draft draw for the rest of the season will be released to the clubs, however it is rare that this process is issue-free and changes at last minute are common. The draw is posted on the Tahmoor website.
Where enough notice is given, the web manager will attempt to put these changes on the website, however this not always possible, or the best way of communicating to the players. As the Club is notified, the message is passed onto the Coaches and Managers. Please help to ensure a good communication system is set up within your team to allow the Coach/Manager to be able to notify you of changes.
This communication system is also relevant for communication to the team when there are ground closures due to bad weather (for training or games), and for notifcation of make-up games (if relevant).
Game Day
When your team plays, your team is required to
provide "Team Official" who wears the
orange fleuro "team official” vest which is provided in the Team Kit Bag.
The role of the Team Official is to ensure your team's spectators are sitting
far enough back from the field and behaving appropriately. This person will be
the first contact of the Referee or Ground Official during a game if he/she
needs assistance.
Duty Days
Our Club is organised and run by volunteers. Registration fees are worked out to cover costs only, and no-one is employed to run the Club on game days. As a result we rely on everyone in the Club to help out.
At the beginning of the season, a Roster is created allocating teams to Duty Days, based on home games and game times (where possible). Each team will be required to help for one or two half-days during the season. This is a whole team experience and not just for one or two people to attend. Duty Days can be swapped between teams (provided the Canteen Coordinator is notified), however it is compulsory. This roster is posted on our website.
Helpers are needed in the canteen, on the barbecue, to act as Ground Officials and to generally help ensure a smooth running of the day. Of course Committee members are around to give advice and to turn to if unsure (in addition to the Canteen Coodinator or assistant rostered on) but they have their own children playing and/or games to play.
In the past we (along with most other sporting clubs) have had significant problems getting parents or players (depending on the age-group) to attend their Duty Day. We have faced one of two scenarios:
-
No-one from the team turns up and the task is left to Committee members who have other responsibilties and who usually have their own children playing. They also have their own Duty Days to cover.
-
Only the Coach and/or Manager attend, who have to cover the whole time themselves with the help of Committee members. Again, this is very unfair as those two members of the team are already doing more than the rest and deserve the assistance from the rest of the team.
As a result, a penalty system is currently being discussed for teams who do not attend.
Presentation Day
Usually held towards the end of October is our Presentation Day where end of season trophies are handed out to players. It is held this late as it takes some time for the finals to be completed and the requirements for trophies/presents for all teams to be known and then procured. The day generally runs from 9.00am to 3.00pm.
Food and drinks (eg BBQ, coffee van) is organised to be run by third parties so all the club members can relax and enjoy themselves. Rides are also organised. In past years there has been dodgems, jumping castles, mega-slides, etc.
The plan is for it to be a fun, family day and we encourage everyone to attend, not just for the presentation but for the whole day. Depending on the weather, we encourage everyone to bring sunshelter, sunscreen, chairs, etc.
