What Does a Manager Do?

The coach works with the players. The Manager is responsible for the rest.

This includes to:

  1. Keep the team involved of playing times and activities of the club.

  2. Ensure players are fully registered before taking the field.

  3. Check oppositions team IDs and Match Card details.

  4. Keep a record of the team's results for competition agegroups/divisions (ie not U6 - U9). Compare these with the official results on the MDSFA site. Sometimes there can be a difference between your records and Macarthur's. If this occurs, contact the club to follow up.

  5. Fill in the Match Card for team - before and after game (check score written on card for competition agegroups).

  6. Make payment for the attending official referees. Keep receipt and return to club.

  7. Inform the club's Secretary of any red/yellow cards by Sunday night 6.30pm

  8. Keep a record of red/yellow cards, and where suspension occurs, keep a record of stood down matches (players name must be written in "stood down" section).

  9. With the Coach, organise the Team Official, representative for club general meetings and parent helpers for the team's Duty Day.

The Manager needs to have an understanding of child protection.

Tips

  • Work out a good method of communication with the team - be it email addresses and/or mobile phone numbers. This may be necessary for late changes/updates and cancelled training (depending on weather). Start this communication early in the season.

  • When there is no single allocated goalkeeper (ie all mini and younger junior teams), allocate each player to the same shirt number (barring No 1). Keep this list and bring to each game to complete the Match Card. Here is a blank Match Card that you can use as a basis for filling out the card each day. See information re completing Match Cards in the section "Game Day/a>".

  • Make sure you train someone else to fill out match cards in case you cannot be at the game. It should not be left to the Coach if you can help it. See examples of Match cards also in the section "Game Day".

  • Players must not take their playing shirts home. All shirts must be kept together. Organise a roster for players/parents to take the shirts home to wash. Only keep the playing shirts that are being used in the shirt bag (keep any spares separate), so that only the dirty ones get washed. At the end of the season, ensure the playing shirts and other vests are washed before being returned to the club. Just think - who wants to be the recipient of shirts the next year if they have not been washed before being stored?

  • When in doubt - ask any member of the committee for advice. If needing help filling out match cards, ask - even if you are at an Away match.
