Duty Day

As explained in the Parents and Players section "What to Expect", our club is run fully by volunteers, and to make the day run smoothly and for the canteen and BBQ to be open, we need parent helpers.

Once the team draw is released by Macarthur, the Canteen Manager creates a Duty Day roster, based on home games and game times (where possible). Each team is allocated one to two half-day "Duty Days" and the roster is posted on our website.Even with this roster, getting enough helpers can be difficult. This problem is not unique to our club. We have faced one of two scenarios:

  1. No-one from the team turns up and the task is left to Committee members who have other responsibilties and who usually have their games or their own children playing. They also have their own Duty Days to cover. As a result, the implementation of a penalty system is being discussed for those teams who do not attend their Duty Day.

  2. Only the Coach and/or Manager attend, who have to cover the whole time themselves with the help of Committee members. Again, this is very unfair as those two members of the team are already doing more than the rest and deserve the assistance from the rest of the team.

Some hints for Coaches and Managers:

  1. Let your players and/or parents know well in advance that they will be expected to help out.

  2. Notify them early when the roster is released.ter is released.

  3. Remind them regularly in the couple of weeks before your day comes up. Make sure you clarify who wil be available and when. Remember, the same helpers do not have to be there the whole time. Many hands make light work

In the end - remember chances are you will get stuck with the job by yourselves unless you enlist the help you need. For a full description of what is involved with your team's Duty Day, please refer to Duty Day section.
